Happy 2017

Hello everyone.  Happy new year.  May 2017 be a hell of a lot better than 2016.  After what I have been through, I think having good health is the most important.  With good health, you can do so much with your life — things that you know will make you happy and rich, maybe not in the monetary sense necessarily but definitely rich in experiences and memories.  Of course, having a regular income that comes with a corporate career will make me happy too but I am really not sure I can bring myself to give up my free time.  I am still putting my list of new year resolutions together, so I will share them in my next post.  But I have definitely been busy setting the foundation for a busier and more fruitful 2017 even though I was not blogging.

I am back now after an 8-week hiatus.  I stopped writing in mid-Nov, running out of steam and enthusiasm.  I guess I just became discouraged.  I signed up for a Blogging course online (have not completed it yet) and it taught me how to check if the topic(s) I was blogging about were well searched on the Internet.  I found to my dismay that there was hardly anyone searching for SG50 and I started to doubt myself.  I had second thoughts about continuing with my blog and thought perhaps I should change the name and start all over again.  Why continue blogging if no one is ever going to find me?  But I can’t think of a better name than LovingSG50plus.  I am really enjoying my 50plus journey.  And even if no one ever discover my blog, I am happy to keep writing about my experiences and feelings.  Don’t get me wrong, I do have bigger dreams for my blog — otherwise why would I register and pay for the online course How to Turn Blogging into a Career.  But I read somewhere that if you are blogging about something you are passionate about, you will keep going even if no one is reading it.  And that is what I intend to do in 2017 — keep blogging, and also come up with a marketing plan to promote the blog and recruit followers.

I went for high tea with a good friend just last week.  The traditional high tea at Marriott is pretty good, especially with the 1-for-1 deal with DBS card (it ended on 31 Dec 2016 too bad).  I talked to her about my blog and she agreed that it would be difficult if I continue to use “Gemstone” instead of my real name and do not tap into my Facebook and What’s App contacts to promote my blog.  But I love blogging under the name Gemstone and the thought of finding real followers who are genuinely interested in my blogs rather than following me because of me sounds like a bigger achievement.

So, I decided to blog again.  I have been working many hours at Coffee Bean since Christmas Eve and I finally had time and the energy today to write.  Believe it or not, as I was writing, my high tea friend text me to say that she enjoyed my posts and thought I wrote well.  She asked if she could invite her friends to my blog.  It’s all very flattering.  I hope in this new year, I can update my blog regularly, like 3 times a week like I originally intended to.  That’s one new year resolution.
